MAGNIFY

I recall science class playing with a magnifying glass and instrument that makes things appear larger.  Then in the summer utilizing on to project the sun onto a piece of paper.  Remember those days?  As Christians we are told to magnify Jesus.  In actually, we are enlarging our perception of Jesus as He will always be the same.

In some circles of Christianity, it has been taught in err, that we have a Father that automatically blesses us and rescues us from EVERYTHING.  Maturing we realize we are to bless others & rule with Him, as that our creed is, “I AM saved to die to me & live for Him.”

David in Psalms 34 says something so interesting Ps 34:3.  O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Now this verse so intriguing because this is written at a time when David is being chased by King Saul and he acts as though he is insane which you can read in 1 Samuel 23.  So in the midst of walking through this David says oh Magnify the Lord with me!  Now that sounds bizarre and he must really be insane?

In life we may receive a promise, blessing, or word and everything seems contrary.  Marriage on the rocks, health, loss of spouse, miscarriage, job loss after promotion, this was David.  He was anointed to be king and everything was opposing.  That prophecy, word, or promise will experience adversity but we must go through the problems the same way we embrace the promise with thanksgiving.  Even after Joseph reached the palace he had to deal with his family. That’s another story.

To Magnify means:

1.   To make great or greater; to increase the apparent dimensions of a body. A convex lens magnifies the bulk of a body to the eye.

2. To make great in representation; to extol; to exalt in description or praise. The embassador magnified the king and queen.

3. To extol; to exalt; to elevate; to raise in estimation.”

In the Hebrew magnify means:

to be great, make great, to laud or extol

“How great are His signs And how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom And His dominion is from generation to generation. Dan 4:3

God you are Great, Mighty, ALL powerful, Great Physician, Infinite God, There is no End or beginning.  The Great Deliverer, Redeemer.  The Indisputable Champions,  There is no Rival, Equal, None Compares to Your Splendor Or Majesty.  We see You High Lifted Up, Your train goes beyond the temple.  The oceans bow down at Your glory, The Angels Sing Holy, We Cry Out to the Holy One, the Only one Worthy of Our Adoration & Love.  We honor the name of above all names, Jesus, The Blood that one drop cleanses ALL.  In You ALL life exists.

When we magnify God we tell Him of His worth or that He is Worthy- there are two parts of worthy in Hebrew zachah when the letter is receiving from God, and doing for God which means to cleanse or become pure. As we tell God of His worth He changes ours, as a reflection of His.

Nancy Guthrie wrote the concept of what it means to magnify God and says: The truth is, we can never fully take in or understand God's greatness. But we can magnify Him. We magnify God not by making Him bigger than He truly is, but by making Him greater in our thoughts, in our affections, in our memories, and in our expectations.

Two years ago, this week, I had just arrived to speak at a women’s conference in KY, which required me to fly through 3 international airports in the process.  Suddenly, I was ill and symptoms I had not experienced.  COVID19 rippled through airwaves and unknown symptoms etc., I had multiple nights of sweats, throat on fire, etc.,  The doctors really didn’t desire to see anyone.  So on March 16 I woke up at 3 am in the morning in fear and trepidation, my entire body felt on fire woke and me up.  I called my dad.  Which he began praying continuously quoting scripture for almost 45 minutes.  I had the thought that I started saying Jesus. Then I suddenly began praying and reminding God all the things He said about me, what I would do, and yet fulfilled for about twenty minutes.  My dad interrupted me and said will you check yourself.  I said huh? He said check yourself.  Every symptom the palpitations, fire in throat and body gone.  My dad demanded I press doctors in the morning.   I had some wonderful people take me to doctor in the morning.  I even called my pastor at 3 or 5 am in the morning.  Which I have never done in my life.  When I checked myself as my dad said there was such a tingling of peace over my entire body.  I began reading words on like a ticker on my wall.  What is interesting is that this experience has forever change my faith in God.  My prayer, we’re magnifying God.  He’s a Healer, Giver, King, Alpha, and Omega, and I discovered how many scriptures were inside of me.

Like David we can’t go around but THROUGH to fulfill our destiny.  Even Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:46-47).

Yet Mary would have to go THROUGH pregnancy out of wedlock being ostracized to deliver the Savior.  We don’t realize as believers we are pregnant with a message, gift of the Savior that we will have to go THROUGH to fulfill what He said.

My friend, let’s us remember, “we magnify God not by making Him bigger than He truly is, but by making Him greater in our thoughts, in our affections, in our memories, and in our expectations.”
