FLASHBACK: Excerpt from The God APP
There are many times in life when we
make mistakes. Oftentimes, when we err,
we know, and it is disappointing when others constantly point out our faults.
I
recall from my high school days, a struggle for me was my mouth. Especially, while playing basketball. Obviously, seeds from music were reiterated when
mistakes occurred. I vividly remember
playing at Finneytown, a varsity game, my junior year. I went to make a move between my legs, and
the ball went out of bounds. As the ball
went out of bounds, a word flew out of my mouth and silence hit the entire gym.
My coach’s response, she simply shook her head and sat down. Silence.
Sometimes, the silence can be so loud, it transforms us. We are left alone with our thoughts to
personally assess with God. In that
moment, I decided to change. In the
game, I should have received a technical, but no whistle blew, no reprimand, as
I was a stellar player in my region.
Perhaps, the referee felt the illegitimate move was punishment
enough. At times, that is exactly how
God examines the situation, because the consequences are audible enough. In
addition, the silence can become convicting, converting the soul. Sometimes the silence is so significate it
breeds transformation needed in our lives.
It was for me.
Soul Reflection: Have you ever been accused? The
difficult part in some cases, occurs when the accusations are false. In the case of every individual we are guilty
in some form.
There
was a time in fourth or fifth grade we were involved with horseplay in music
class. One of the kids was taken to the
nurse’s office and we continued with our class.
Later in the school day, the horseplay revealed that our classmate had
broke his arm. Suddenly, I recall the
teacher say, “Naomi, why did you push such and such, was it on purpose?” In that moment, I felt at least 28 pairs of
eyes on me, totally caught off guard, and ashamed. Absolutely, I admittedly involved in the horseplay,
but not intentionally harming someone. It
could have easily been any of us. As an
adult reflecting, perhaps it was inappropriate the teacher pinpointed me in
front of my peers. Nevertheless, once my
response was given, I was free!
Accusation
is a heavy burden from: rumors, lies, truth, and friends that may abandon
you. We all must be thankful when the
One stands up and says in our case, “I’ll take the blame.” Jesus allowed this woman caught in adultery, and us the freedom,
when ALL eyes were redirected to Him instead of us! I’m so thankful He takes the burden, blame, the
sin and shame, so it’s lifted from me!
