Why Not You? Why Not Now?

Fear is a beautiful element when we utilize it to propel us not paralyze us.  Nelson Mandela said it best, “ I learned courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it.  The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”  Even at the death of Moses, God tells Joshua three times to take courage because God knew Joshua, as we all will, experience moments of fear.

My own personal fears at the ages from 13-17 yrs old were not boys, school, appearance, but the circular field every spring.  Since I was 9 years old I started running with my dad every Saturday as a hobby, running miles with such ease.  Yet, the moment I began performing solo in half mile and mile, I felt the pressure.

You know we all fear, whether it’s a board meeting, business move, anything out of our comfort zone, that we cannot predict.  Pressure of performance, resistance, energy, stress, strain, unknown, ramifications of errors, pressure.  When I the nervous energy stored up at the sound of the gun, I ran like a bat out of hades.  Truth, I only lost two races in my career, and records still stand at my high school.  SO why did I fear, why do we fear? Great question!

As God told Joshua, I will be with you as I was with Moses.  It is the acknowledgement of why we do what we do.  Are we in it for our reputation?  Are we in it for applause?  Or are we in it for God?  David’s first known battle against Goliath wasn’t even a fight. Why? David stated, for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.”  My friend we have to place the onus on God.  Did God ask you to do it?  Did God say it would come to pass? Then let’s transfer the pressure on God’s shoulders, mind, heart, and off our of shoulders, so we can focus on what He has required us to do…..i.e. share the gospel.

So what is that thing that haunts you? Is it about you or God? Besides Why Not You? Why Not Now?  Peter seized the opportunity to trust the power of God to walk on water, speak on the day of Pentecost, heal those they were diseased, and so on.  My friend, let’s remove pride the enemy has us drowning in.  The question is not is God with us, are we with God?  God has never lost, so suit up for His team everyday! If we recall the only time Joshua lost was when the Israelites fought without God, i.e., Achan in Joshua 7.

So what are we waiting for? How do we use that fear?  God will direct our fear or nervous energy so that we make an impact.  I eventually became a second team All-American Division 1, David used a sling shot, Joshua an ephod, Gideon pots and torches, is it sinking in?  God gives us a specific outlet so the fear is actually the fuel to help us focus and prevail!

So Why Not You? Why Not Now? Yes, step out of your comfort zone and into the God zone!  He’s already prepared for you to prevail, if you and I, will simply be willing and obedient.  I’m excited for us, as we take courage and triumph, because God already has the “W, the V,” tallied in the Win column.
